Professional Fit Testing You Can Trust

We provide comprehensive respirator fit testing services to keep your team safe and your workplace compliant with New Zealand regulations.

Quantitative Fit Testing

We use a TSI PortaCount for precise, objective measurement of respirator seal integrity — the gold standard for ensuring each respirator is fit for the individual wearer.

Onsite & Mobile Testing

We come to your workplace to test your entire team efficiently, minimising downtime and ensuring everyone is properly fitted with their respirator.

Respirator Sourcing

Don’t have a respirator yet? We can help you source the right equipment for your specific workplace hazards and ensure it fits correctly.

BEFORE YOUR TEST

Pre-Test Requirements

To ensure accurate results, please follow these requirements before your fit test.

Clean Shaven

All facial hair must be removed in areas where the respirator seal contacts the face. Stubble, beards, and even heavy stubble will break the seal.

No Smoking, Vaping, Eating or Drinking

Avoid smoking, vaping, eating, or drinking for at least 30 minutes prior to your test. These activities can interfere with test results.

Bring Your Own Respirator

Bring the respirator you will be using on the job. Don’t have one yet? Enquire about sourcing one from us and we’ll help you find the right fit.

Important: Failure to meet these pre-test requirements may result in an inaccurate fit test. If a test cannot be completed due to non-compliance with these requirements, a retest may be required at additional cost.

STAY COMPLIANT

When to Get Retested

Fit tests don’t last forever. Here are the situations that require a new fit test.

Annually

Every 12 months as required by AS/NZS 1715 guidelines.

After Dental Work

Significant dental changes can alter facial structure and affect the seal.

After 10% Weight Change

A gain or loss of 10% body weight can change the shape of your face.

Changing Respirator Brand

Different brands fit differently — a new brand requires a new test.

GENERAL INFORMATION

NZ Fit Testing Information

WorkSafe specifically recommends using a specialist or the respirator supplier, and states that testing should follow ISO 16975-3.

Who can perform fit testing?

Good options include the following qualified professionals and providers.

Specialist Commercial Fit-Testing Providers

Specialist commercial fit-testing providers, including companies that provide quantitative testing with a PortaCount-type machine.

Asbestos Work

For asbestos work, we recommend choosing quantitative testing if available, particularly for reusable P3 half/full-face respirators. WorkSafe states that quantitative testing provides the objective measurement of the seal, whereas qualitative testing is essentially pass/fail based on taste or smell.
